Alex Rodriguez's reported ratting out of fellow players during a 2014 meeting with two assistant US Department of Justice attorneys and seven Drug Enforcement Administration agents occurred to avoid testifying in congress, per the NY Post. 

In 2014, Rodriguez met with two assistant US Department of Justice attorneys and seven Drug Enforcement Administration agents and handed over the names of three fellow players, as reported by ESPN. Specifically, Rodriguez is accused of outing Boston Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez and Milwaukee Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun. 

According to the report, Rodriguez met with the federal agents and prosecutors on January 29, 2014 in Weston, Florida and was granted immunity under a deal known colloquially as 'Queen for a Day' -- meaning he could not be prosecuted over information revealed in the session, but had to tell the truth or face charges for lying to federal agents. 

'I 100 percent believe he got off the hook of testifying in Congress because he cooperated,' a source told The Post.

Both Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire - long accused of using steroids - testified in hearings relating to steroid use in sports.

Hearing the news live on Foul Territory Thursday, ex-Yankee David Wells had a characteristically strong response.   

'That's not good. That will come back to bite you in the a** tenfold,' Wells said. 

'Nobody likes a rat. You always lie your way out of everything until you get caught and then you got to come clean.'

The meeting came after Rodriguez's MLB arbitration hearing, meaning that his statements to the feds, which were likely shared with the league, wouldn't factor into MLB sanctions.

MLB's independent arbitrator had already suspended him for the entirety of the 2014 season, finding that he was a drug cheater and had tried to obstruct the league's investigation into the Biogenesis scandal.  

During arbitration, Rodriguez and his attorneys had furiously denied allegations that he'd used PEDs, 시알리스 구매 사이트 accusing Biogenesis owner Bosch of setting him up. 

According to ESPN, the meeting with the feds was the first time that Rodriguez admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs purchased from Bosch.

Bosch, who owned the now-defunct Biogenesis clinic, pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute testosterone and was sentenced in February 2015 to four years in prison.

Rodriguez was never charged in the Biogenesis scandal, and bounced back from his 2014 suspension to play for the Yankees in 2015 and 2016. 

Wells and Rodriguez were never teammates with the lefty's last season in New York, 2003, coming a year before A-Rod's arrival. 

Wells compared the reported actions of Rodriguez to that of self-confessed drug cheat Jose Canseco, who named players who alleged used steroids in his two books. 

'That's kind of allegedly what Canseco did when he wasn't getting all the recognition and then he started dropping names and all that — allegedly,' Wells said.

He retired from the sport on August 12, 2016 and went on to find success as a media personality and sports commentator.
